Second Sun

(48” x 48”) Oil on canvas 2023

This painting is inspired by the ancient legend of the Two Suns, a prophecy that appears across many world mythologies. Traditionally, the sighting of two suns signals a period of immense upheaval. It portrays an era of intense transformation followed by realignment and healing. On a deeper spiritual level, the Two Suns symbolize an enormous shift in human consciousness, accompanied by the release of a powerful surge of new spiritual energy across the Earth.

The being between the two illuminated suns is my own interpretation of Apollo, the Greek and Roman god of light, truth, and prophecy. Apollo here is observing this significant event at a critical juncture. His right eye contains a single tear, which was inspired by artist Alexandre Cabanel’s The Fallen Angel. In this particular instance, it alludes to the act of beholding such divine beauty up close.

This work was created in response to the sweeping changes occurring on Earth today, particularly in the wake of the global events of 2020, which undoubtedly altered the course of collective life as we knew it. In this context, the prophecy of the Two Suns feels more imminent than ever. It may not necessarily be a literal phenomenon, but perhaps a symbolic marker for humanity.

By bringing this vision onto canvas, my intention was to create a contemplative portal rather than a mere image. I believe that witnessing such symbolism can itself act as a catalyst, subtly shifting perception and bringing people into a deeper understanding of the transformative moment we are currently living through. In this way, the painting becomes both a reflection of change and an active contributor in this grand awakening that has already been set in motion.
