(36” x 48”) Oil on canvas 2023
This painting is inspired by Hathor, the ancient Egyptian goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. She is reimagined here through a blend of Egyptian and Hindu visual influences, reflecting a shared vision of the divine feminine that crosses cultures and time.
Hathor exemplifies inner stillness and spiritual awareness. One pair of her hands forms Gyan mudra, a symbolic hand gesture associated with wisdom and inner illumination. Her other pair is in Anjali mudra, a sign of unity, respect, and balance.
The solar disk is located between her horns with gold light emanating outward. This sun touches on Hathor’s epithet as the “Golden One,” emphasizing her connection to warmth, vitality, and divine light. The pyramids in the background reflect her origins in ancient Egypt, while the floating Egyptian eyes above the sun disk signal an element of mystery and hidden knowledge.
Hathor was chosen by me as the embodiment of beauty for its own sake, an intuitive decision based on my personal sense of connection to the goddess during the painting’s creation. In general, this piece poses as a visual tribute to divine beauty and spirituality.
